    THE SHORT ANSWER

What does a FileMaker migration to Power Apps cost?

For a FileMaker solution with up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of database, Theia offers a 1:1 migration to Microsoft Power Apps at a fixed price of CHF 18,900 excl. VAT, in 6 calendar weeks, depending on customer approvals (Theia offer on Microsoft Marketplace, as of 14 October 2026). It includes an inventory workshop, the migration blueprint, automated data migration, the app with functionally equivalent screens and workflows, testing and acceptance, go-live support and a transfer workshop. Microsoft licences and any Azure running costs are not included: for an app on Dataverse, every user needs a premium licence, according to Microsoft either Power Apps Premium at CHF 16.20 per user and month with annual billing, excluding VAT, or pay-as-you-go per app via an Azure subscription at USD 10 per active user, app and month. For comparison, Claris lists FileMaker at USD 17.50 to USD 45 per user and month, billed annually and from 5 users; we do not convert these to Swiss francs. We quote larger or unclear solutions, functional changes, a redesign, Power BI reports or a custom web app individually, if needed after a Discovery sprint for CHF 9,500–14,500, which is credited against the implementation. Sources and check dates are listed at the end of this page.

    STATUS OF FILEMAKER

Does FileMaker still have a future?

Yes, Claris keeps developing FileMaker: FileMaker 2026 was released on 9 June 2026. What matters is the version you run, because Claris supports each version for 2 years from its release. After that, it receives no more security updates or bug fixes.

FileMaker versions and end of support according to Claris
    FileMaker 2026June 2026June 2028Current version, latest update 26.0.3 (September 2026)
    FileMaker 2025July 2025July 2027Supported
FileMaker 2024June 20244 June 2026End of support reached: no more security updates
    • Platforms: FileMaker Pro runs on macOS and Windows 11 (64-bit), FileMaker Go on iPhone and iPad, FileMaker Server on macOS, Windows Server and Ubuntu. Claris runs FileMaker Cloud on Amazon Web Services.
    • Android: Claris lists no FileMaker app for Android. For FileMaker WebDirect on mobile devices, Claris names Chrome 147 or later and Safari on iOS 26 or later.
    • Licence: Claris lists subscriptions, billed annually, from 5 users. New versions are only available with a current subscription or maintenance contract.
    • Older files: FileMaker Pro 26 opens files from FileMaker Pro 12 onwards; older ones must be converted first.
    • Claris is discontinuing Claris Studio on 15 March 2027. According to Claris, FileMaker and Claris Connect are not affected.

Our assessment: a migration is not mandatory. It pays off above all if your company already works with Microsoft 365, if an older FileMaker version without support is running, or if you want to use Android devices with an app instead of the browser. When staying is the better choice

    EIGHT COST BLOCKS

What does a FileMaker migration consist of?

Inventory, data migration, rebuilding the app, workflows, integrations and training are one-time costs. Licences and operations keep running after the switch. The table shows what the fixed price covers and where Microsoft prices or Theia's published prices apply.

FileMaker migration cost blocks: scope, billing and published orientation
InventoryList all files, tables, layouts, scripts, container data and integrations. FileMaker Pro's “Save a Copy as XML” writes tables, layouts and scripts to XML, without records. Files from versions before FileMaker Pro 12 must be converted first.One-timeIn the fixed price: “Kick-off & Discovery workshop (½ day): inventory of FileMaker files, data model, scripts, UI flows”. The fixed price applies up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of FileMaker database; we quote larger scopes individually. If the scope is unclear, you start with a Discovery sprint (2 weeks, CHF 9,500–14,500), which is credited against the implementation. Source
Data migrationClean data, map data types, export container data such as images and documents record by record, carry over any existing log or history data.One-timeIn the fixed price: “Automated data migration (incl. history & attachments) via our ETL scripts”. The scope does not name data cleansing; we quote it individually. Note: in file columns, Power Apps controls upload and download files up to 128 MB; image columns hold at most 30 MB. Source
Rebuilding the appScreens, logic, roles and permissions in Power Apps with Dataverse, as a canvas or model-driven app, or as a custom web app, for example with React and .NET on Azure.One-timeIn the fixed price: “App creation in Power Apps (Canvas or Model-Driven as appropriate) with functionally equivalent screens and workflows”. For queries they cannot pass on to Dataverse, canvas apps only consider the first 500 records by default, 2,000 at most. Redesign or a custom web app: quoted individually. Source
Scripts and workflowsRebuild FileMaker scripts as app logic or as Power Automate flows.One-time, licence ongoingFlows in the context of the app are included in Power Apps Premium, without desktop automation (RPA). Standalone flows that use premium connectors or Dataverse need Power Automate Premium (CHF 12.10 per user and month, excl. VAT) or a per-flow Process licence. Source
IntegrationsODBC and SQL connections, ERP, plug-ins, custom APIs and data on your own servers.One-timeThe fixed-price scope names no integrations, and integrating systems that are not connected today is explicitly excluded. We clarify in the intro call what existing integrations involve and quote them individually if needed. SQL Server, the on-premises gateway and custom APIs need a premium licence such as Power Apps Premium. Source
LicencesPower Apps Premium per user, additional Dataverse capacity, Power Pages for external users.Monthly, annual billingNot in the fixed price, nor are Azure running costs. Power Apps Premium CHF 16.20 per user and month; Dataverse database CHF 32.40 per GB and month; Power Pages CHF 162 per 100 authenticated users per website and month. Microsoft prices for Switzerland, excl. VAT. Source
TrainingPrepare admins and users for the new app.One-timeIn the fixed price: “Transfer workshop (½ day)” with admin and user training and documentation. Further Theia workshops from CHF 3,500 per day. Source
Operations & evolutionSupport, changes, extensions, licence and capacity control.OngoingIn the fixed price: “Go-live support (1 day): production deployment and hyper-care support (5 business days, via Teams)”. After that, Theia Managed & Evolve from CHF 4,000 per month (12-month minimum term) or quoted individually. Source

Quotes in “…” in the “Published orientation” column are items of the fixed-price scope on Microsoft Marketplace. Microsoft prices for Switzerland with annual billing, excl. VAT. Theia publishes no price for integrations, a redesign or a custom web app. The fixed price is excl. VAT; the linked Theia pages state no VAT basis.

    THE FIXED PRICE IN DETAIL

What does the fixed price include?

Theia offers the migration as a consulting offer on Microsoft Marketplace: we migrate a FileMaker solution with up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of FileMaker database 1:1 to Microsoft Power Apps in 6 calendar weeks, at a fixed price of CHF 18,900 excl. VAT. Screens, scripts and workflows become functionally equivalent in Power Apps, without functional changes or redesign. It is based on our offer document “Detailed Offer Information”, which is linked in the Marketplace listing.

    • FileMaker Server or the FileMaker files (up to 5 GB and 20 layouts) with admin access
    • Power Apps Premium (or an equivalent licence) in place
    • A technical contact on your side with at least 25% of their working time during the project
    Assumptions
    • The migration is like-for-like (1:1), without functional changes
    • The project is delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
    • You give feedback and test within 2 business days
    Acceptance
    • All FileMaker layouts and scripts are functionally equivalent in Power Apps
    • The data is complete and correct in Dataverse (sample: at least 95% of data points)
    • After hyper-care, the app has no critical (severity 1) bugs
What 1:1 means on another platform

Power Apps works differently from FileMaker in some respects. We clarify such differences before the migration starts:

    • Offline-first in Power Apps only works with Dataverse in the Power Apps app, not in the browser.
    • For queries they cannot pass on to Dataverse, canvas apps only consider the first 500 records by default, 2,000 at most.
    • File columns: Power Apps controls upload and download files up to 128 MB; image columns hold at most 30 MB.

LICENCE CALCULATOR · OLD AND NEW

What do the licences cost before and after the migration?

Choose the number of users and your FileMaker plan. FileMaker is calculated in USD with Claris prices, Power Apps Premium in CHF with Microsoft's Swiss price. We do not convert between the two currencies.

    Today: FileMaker Server Starter
    USD 2,100 per year
    USD 175 per month
After the migration: Power Apps Premium
    CHF 1,944 per year
    CHF 162 per month

Formula: users × price per user and month × 12

    FileMaker Server Starter: 10 × USD 17.50 × 12 = USD 2,100

    Power Apps Premium: 10 × CHF 16.20 × 12 = CHF 1,944

We do not convert USD and CHF. Claris charges Swiss customers its own CHF prices including VAT in the Claris Store; your Claris invoice is what counts, not the exchange rate.

The calculator compares Power Apps Premium only. Pay-as-you-go per app (USD 10 per active user, app and month) is not included.

Licence costs per year — FileMaker in USD (Claris), Power Apps Premium in CHF (Microsoft Switzerland); licences only, not converted
    5 usersUSD 1,320USD 2,700USD 1,050USD 1,320CHF 972
    10 usersUSD 2,640USD 5,400USD 2,100USD 2,640CHF 1,944
    25 usersnot availableUSD 13,500USD 5,250USD 6,600CHF 4,860

Licences only. FileMaker: claris.com prices in USD per user and month, billed annually, from 5 users, without a tax statement; Cloud Starter for 5–10 users and up to 3 apps. According to Claris, all users get FileMaker Pro, Go and WebDirect plus Claris Connect; with FileMaker Server, your own hardware or hosting comes on top. Power Apps Premium: Microsoft's price for Switzerland, annual billing, excl. VAT; includes unlimited apps and Power Pages for the licensed user, Power Automate in the context of the app and 250 MB of database plus 2 GB of file capacity per licence; Microsoft 365 licences are not included. Not included anywhere: the migration, operations and support. Prices checked on 14 October 2026.

    EIGHT QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU SIGN

How do you compare two migration offers fairly?

Ask every provider to answer these points in writing. Then compare the same scope, the same target platform and the same licences.

    1. Scope

Which files, tables, layouts, scripts and reports are in scope?

    2. Data

Is all data included, including container data such as images and documents and any existing history? How is the migration checked?

    3. Target architecture

Canvas app, model-driven app or custom web app: what is planned, and why?

    4. Licences

Which licence does every user need after the migration, and is it included in the price?

    5. Devices and offline

Which devices (Mac, Windows, iPad, Android) and which offline use are covered?

    6. Integrations

Which integrations, plug-ins and server schedules are carried over, and which are not?

    7. Acceptance and switch-over

How is acceptance done, how long does FileMaker run in parallel, and when is it switched off?

    8. After go-live

Who supports the app, who may change it, who owns the solution, and how is VAT shown?

    HONESTLY ASSESSED

When should you stay with FileMaker?

We are a Microsoft partner. Still, a migration does not always pay off. In our assessment, staying is often the better choice in these cases:

    • The solution runs reliably on a supported version and has few integrations. Then staying is usually cheaper than migrating.
    • Your team works mainly on Mac, iPhone and iPad, and FileMaker Go covers everyday work.
    • The data must stay on your own servers. FileMaker Server runs on up to 3 servers of your own, while Dataverse runs in the Microsoft Cloud.
    • A small team without Microsoft 365 for whom the bundle of FileMaker Pro, Go, WebDirect and Claris Connect is enough, for example with FileMaker Cloud Starter for 5 to 10 users and up to 3 apps.

If that applies to you, we will tell you in the intro call.

    COMMON QUESTIONS

    Common questions about FileMaker migration

For a FileMaker solution with up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of database, Theia offers a 1:1 migration to Microsoft Power Apps at a fixed price of CHF 18,900 excl. VAT, in 6 calendar weeks (depending on customer approvals), without functional changes or redesign. That is what the offer document of Theia's consulting offer on Microsoft Marketplace states (checked on 14 October 2026). Microsoft licences and any Azure running costs are not included in the fixed price: for an app on Dataverse, every user needs a premium licence, according to Microsoft either Power Apps Premium at CHF 16.20 per user and month with annual billing, excluding VAT, or pay-as-you-go per app via an Azure subscription at USD 10 per active user, app and month. We quote larger or unclear solutions, functional changes and custom web apps individually, if needed after a Discovery sprint for CHF 9,500–14,500, which is credited against the implementation.

According to Theia's Marketplace offer, the fixed price of CHF 18,900 excl. VAT for a 1:1 migration to Power Apps covers: 1) Kick-off & Discovery workshop (½ day): inventory of FileMaker files, data model, scripts, UI flows; 2) Migration blueprint: mapping FileMaker → Dataverse, UI layout, roles & permissions; 3) Automated data migration (incl. history & attachments) via our ETL scripts; 4) App creation in Power Apps (Canvas or Model-Driven as appropriate) with functionally equivalent screens and workflows; 5) Testing & acceptance: functional testing, UAT, bug fixes (2 iterations); 6) Go-live support (1 day): production deployment and hyper-care support (5 business days, via Teams); 7) Transfer workshop (½ day): admin & user training, hand-over documentation (architecture, data model, admin guide). It applies to solutions with up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of FileMaker database; we quote larger scopes individually. Not included: 1) Functional enhancements and redesign of screens or workflows; 2) Integration of systems that are not connected today; 3) Creating or changing Power BI reports; 4) Power Platform licences and Azure running costs. Acceptance criteria: 1) All FileMaker layouts and scripts are functionally equivalent in Power Apps; 2) The data is complete and correct in Dataverse (sample: at least 95% of data points); 3) After hyper-care, the app has no critical (severity 1) bugs.

Theia's Marketplace offer plans 6 calendar weeks for a 1:1 migration to Power Apps, depending on customer approvals: Kick-off & discovery (Week 1), Blueprint & environment setup (Weeks 1–2), Data and app migration (Weeks 2–4), Testing & acceptance (Week 5), Go-live & hyper-care (Week 6). For this, you give feedback and test within 2 business days. The project typically starts within 10 business days after the contract is signed. This timeline applies to solutions with up to 20 layouts and 5 GB of FileMaker database. We plan larger or unclear solutions individually after a 2-week Discovery sprint.

Claris lists FileMaker per user and month, billed annually and from 5 users: FileMaker Server Starter USD 17.50, Server Max USD 22, Cloud Starter USD 22 (5–10 users only) and Cloud Max USD 45, without a tax statement. Microsoft lists Power Apps Premium at CHF 16.20 per user and month, excluding VAT. For 10 users, that is USD 2,100 to USD 5,400 a year for FileMaker and CHF 1,944 for Power Apps Premium. We quote the USD prices from claris.com and do not convert them to Swiss francs. With FileMaker Server, your own server and its operation come on top.

Claris supports each FileMaker version for 2 years from its release. Support for FileMaker 2024 ended on 4 June 2026; FileMaker 2025 is supported until July 2027, and the current FileMaker 2026 (released 9 June 2026) until June 2028. After the end of support, a version receives no more security updates or bug fixes. New versions are only available to customers with a current subscription or maintenance contract. If you run a current version, you are not under time pressure.

Power Apps works offline-first only with Dataverse and only in the Power Apps app for iOS, Android and Windows, not in the browser. It syncs up to 3,000,000 records while the app is in the foreground. FileMaker Go runs on iPhone and iPad. Offline, it works with a local copy of the file; changes are not synced automatically but imported into FileMaker Pro afterwards. Claris lists no FileMaker app for Android; in the browser, FileMaker WebDirect runs on mobile devices with Chrome version 147 or later, according to Claris. We clarify which devices and which offline use you need before the migration.

For the inventory, FileMaker Pro's “Save a Copy as XML” writes tables, fields, relationships, layouts and scripts to XML, but no records; it requires full access privileges. FileMaker exports the data itself as CSV, Excel (XLSX) and XML, among other formats. Container data such as images and documents cannot be exported via CSV or Excel; it is exported record by record with the “Export Field Contents” script step, typically in a loop. FileMaker Server also provides the data via ODBC/JDBC (tested by Claris with 50 connections) and OData. FileMaker Cloud cannot act as an ODBC data source; there, exports run via OData, the Data API or FileMaker Pro.

Not once the app uses Dataverse, as the fixed-price offer intends. The Power Apps rights in Microsoft 365 cover apps with standard connectors, for example on SharePoint. Dataverse (except Dataverse for Teams), premium connectors such as SQL Server, the on-premises gateway, custom APIs and model-driven apps need a premium licence: Power Apps Premium at CHF 16.20 per user and month, or pay-as-you-go per app via an Azure subscription (USD 10 per active user, app and month according to Microsoft). From February 2027, Microsoft enforces premium licensing strictly, among others for model-driven apps and apps in managed environments: users without a suitable licence can then no longer open these apps. Each Power Apps Premium licence adds 250 MB of database and 2 GB of file capacity to the tenant's Dataverse pool; additional database capacity costs CHF 32.40 per GB and month according to Microsoft.

Yes. For SSO Zürich, we replaced the two separate FileMaker databases for its members and the dental emergency service (NFD) with a single solution on the Power Platform, using Dataverse and Power Pages. Comparable replacements of other business applications: AEROPERS: Access application → Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate), 2–3 months, 2 people; CPM AG: Excel solution → Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate), 4–6 months, 2–3 people; Region St. Galler Rheintal (VSGR): Lotus Notes business application InaVIS → Dynamics. These are individual projects, not an average; we do not publish budgets.
